Editor's Note: To complement the review of key articles in the Trademark Law, the "IP Influence" WeChat public account of the Intellectual Property Research Center of Central University of Finance and Economics is launching a special feature on the Fourth Amendment to the Trademark Law - Typical Cases. This feature will categorize, screen, and review trademark cases from the court bulletins of various levels and regions in 2018. In conjunction with the "Article Review" feature, typical cases will be periodically pushed to focus on key articles of the Trademark Law. Each push will highlight key issues related to the relevant articles, selecting 1-2 typical cases around these issues, and extracting and summarizing the basic facts and key rulings of the cases.

National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) member and vice president of the Anhui Provincial Lawyers Association, Zhou Shihong, submitted a proposal to amend and improve relevant legal provisions and strengthen judicial protection of intellectual property rights in the online environment during this year's National People's Congress (NPC) and CPPCC sessions. Zhou explained that intellectual property infringement in the online environment is characterized by its frequency, speed, and wide range, and that the trial of online intellectual property infringement cases faces difficulties in evidence collection, proof, and authentication. Existing legal regulations can no longer meet the needs of intellectual property judicial protection in the context of the rapid development of internet information.

The revised Patent Agent Regulations (hereinafter referred to as the "Regulations") have been promulgated and shall come into effect on March 1, 2019. The Regulations, which came into effect in 1991, have played a positive role in regulating patent agency activities and promoting the development of the patent industry. With the continuous improvement of China's socialist market economic system, the patent agency industry has undergone significant changes. The revised Regulations improve and perfect relevant systems in terms of patent agency practice access, practice standards, and service supervision.

The 2016 China International Trademark and Brand Festival opened on October 27, 2016. A welcome reception was held that evening at the Kunshan International Convention and Exhibition Center. More than 1100 people attended the reception, including leaders from relevant national ministries and commissions, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, and industrial and commercial and market supervision departments from various provinces and cities; officials from the World Intellectual Property Organization and foreign government departments; officials from the International Trademark Association and relevant national trademark industry organizations; renowned domestic and foreign intellectual property experts and brand economists; well-known domestic and foreign entrepreneurs; trademark agencies; and representatives from well-known media. Also in attendance were representatives from the Kunshan Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, and the Kunshan Development Zone Party Working Committee and Administrative Committee.

North China provides intellectual property training for enterprises

On February 7, 2018, Zhongbei was invited to Luxi Group to conduct intellectual property training for the company. Lawyer Zhang from the Trademark Department and Minister Jiao from the Patent Department gave lectures on "Domestic and International Trademark Registration" and "Patent Application and Protection," respectively. They discussed the role of intellectual property in corporate development and operations, explained the importance of intellectual property rights using company-specific examples, and covered related content on intellectual property rights protection. Over 200 employees from various departments of Luxi Group participated in the training. The company stated that the training enhanced their awareness of intellectual property protection and improved their innovative drive.
