The third in a series of reports on the "2017 Chongzuo Trademark Acceptance and Examination Business Capacity Improvement Class": A special report on "How to Guide Enterprises in Doing a Good Job of Trademark Registration and Protection" was successfully held.
On the morning of September 13, 2017, Dong Weifu, director and general manager of Beijing Zhongbei Intellectual Property Agency Co., Ltd., was invited to Room 405 of the Guangxi Intellectual Property Development Research Institute of Guangxi University for Nationalities to give a special report on "How to Guide Enterprises to Do a Good Job in Trademark Registration and Protection" to the trainees of the Chongzuo City Trademark Acceptance and Examination Business Capacity Improvement Class.
Mr. Dong Weifu analyzed how to guide enterprises to do a good job in trademark registration protection from seven aspects: the reform and development of China's trademark registration system, which entities can register trademarks, how to handle trademark registration, how to do a good job in the basic rights layout and planning of trademark brand development, the basic requirements for trademark substantive examination and determination, geographical indication application and examination, trademark renewal, changes, transfer and licensing. He stated that the development of China's trademark registration system is reflected in the changes in five aspects: trademark nuclear transfer system, trademark agency system, trademark agency organization, trademark application volume, and price. It has been affected by five aspects: the opening up of agency qualifications, the intensification of malicious competition, the excessively low registration cost, a large number of useless and junk trademarks, and a significant increase in the trademark rejection rate.
Regarding the issue of how to handle trademark registration, Mr. Dong Weifu explained the marks that can be applied for trademark registration, the types of trademarks, the documents that must be submitted for trademark application, the goods and services of trademark registration applications, and the application procedures. Regarding the issue of how to do a good job in the basic rights layout and planning of trademark brand development, he used the gradual disappearance and fading from the market of national brands such as "Xiaonurse", "Huoli 28", "Lebo", "Beibingyang", and "Meijianjing", which were proud achievements after the reform and opening up, as examples to illustrate the need for a clear understanding of trademark brands and a strong awareness of trademark registration. He stated that a strong trademark awareness requires attention to the timeliness of trademark registration, consideration of forward-looking and defensive strategies, registration integrity, and main and subsidiary trademark strategies.
